Children & Sun Safe Behavior
Experts warn that more than one severe sunburn during the first 18 years of life can double the risk of skin cancer. Children get an average of 3 times more sun exposure than adults. Practice these "sun safety" tips at all times.
  • Don't let children outside without applying a 30+ SPF and lip balm 30 minutes prior to any outdoor activity.
  • Reapply 30+ SPF sunscreen every 2 - 3 hours.
  • Stay out of the sun between the hours of 10am and 4pm.
  • Keep babies 6 months or younger out of the sun. Daily sunblock application is necessary after the age of 6 months.
  • Children should wear a wide brimmed hat, sunblock on all exposed skin, sunglasses, and seek shade when possible.
  • Sun safe clothing should be purchased for children to wear for all outdoor activities.
