CHILDREN & SUN SAFE BEHAVIOR
SUN SAFETY PLEDGE

Today I will be a SunSmart kid
and follow the five SunSmart rules.
I will play in the shade when the sun is hot.
At home, and even at school.

Today I will be a SunSmart kid
and follow the five SunSmart rules.
I will wear a big hat to cover my head
So my friends won't call me a fool.

Today I will be a SunSmart kid
and follow the five SunSmart rules.
I will wear a shirt that has
very long sleeves and long
pants so I can be cool.

Today I will be a SunSmart kid
and follow the five SunSmart rules.
I will wear sunscreen all over my skin
So it won't burn when I play in the pool.

Today I will be a SunSmart kid
and follow the five SunSmart rules.
Cool!

Experts warn that more than one severe sunburn during the first 18 years of life can double the risk of skin cancer. Children get an average of 3 times more sun exposure than adults. Practice these "sun safety" tips at all times.

  • Don't let children outside without applying a 30+ SPF and lip balm 30 minutes prior to any outdoor activity.

  • Reapply 30+ SPF sunscreen every 2 - 3 hours.

  • Stay out of the sun between the hours of 10am and 4pm.

  • Keep babies 6 months or younger out of the sun. Daily sunblock application is necessary after the age of 6 months.

  • Children should wear a wide brimmed hat, sunblock on all exposed skin, sunglasses, and seek shade when possible.

  • Sun safe clothing should be purchased for children to wear for all outdoor activities.
